Ray Briddock Chairman

I started racing in 2001 at the late age of 40.
I had bought a Tamiya rally car for messing around with, and a friend invited me to go see him race one Friday evening at Horsham.
"Bring your car. We'll have a mess around in the car park", he said.
Next thing I know, he's booked me in to the meeting, and I'm out in the first race!
I finished the evening... not last, and never looked back.
My first real touring car was the AE TC3, which served me well, although it had a propensity to break wishbones if you so much as looked at it,
Then after racing at Horsham for about 2 years, I bit the bullet and bought a new Xray T1.
At about the same time, I discovered a little tarmac track at Adur Rec while out walking.
Outdoor racing on tarmac seemed more "real" than the carpet I had been used to, and I became a regular at Adur.
Pretty soon, I had bought a Nitro RS4, "Just to try", and soon found myself Nitro Club Champion.
It was about this time that I was talked into putting myself forward for the Committee as Club Chairman, a post which I had been assured by the outgoing Chairman as "Largely ceremonial".
I currently own 13 model cars in various states of disrepair, and I even get to race one or two from time to time.

I got my first car when is was 10 years old for a Christmas present it was a Tamyia sand buggy that I was not allowed to use unless my dad was with me ,as back in them days it was a lot of money . so 32 years on I got my next car which was a Tamyia TL01 from SMCC and I friend of my found that there was a club which raced RC Cars at Ricardos car park on a Sunday, The name of the club was Adur model car club

I went a few times and got hooked into it, now 10 years on im still loving the hobby and in 2004 I put myself forward for to committee as the secretary which I was voted in by the members back them , here I’am now in 2011 as the vice chairman and still enjoying the hobby

My first car was a Tamiya off road buggy back in 86 but never raced it. I first started racing a RC car at Ricardos car park in 2001. The track was made up of scaffold planks and plastic. I became the treasurer in 2005 6 years later I am still here.

Ian Billett PR Officer

I have been racing since the early 80's. Over the years, I have driven almost every RC race class there is. Regularly to be seen, not only driving an 1/8th Circuit car, but also 1/8th RallyX and Electric Touring Cars. It has often been said that I am a true all round PRO racer. I would like to think I bring a wealth of experience to this clubs demanding role of PR Officer.

I started about 4 years ago when my wife bought me a monster truck for a birthday present. The idea was to keep me out of the house while she was studying for a MSC. This was great fun and kept me quiet for hours and more importantly out of the house!!

My father in law then mentioned there was a track down at Shoreham rec so the pair of us went down there after he had dug out his old rc car and got it going. This again was great fun but of course the next natural progression was to go down on a race day and see what it was all about. This then led to me buying my first 1/10 touring car and I’ve never looked back since.

Why did I join the committee as webmaster? I still ask myself that question regularly, all joking aside it is hard work but very rewarding.

My first was a Tamiya Holiday Buggy. when I was 15. 25 years later and about 20 cars on I am about to buy another holiday buggy for my son. Like all of us I bought for a bit of fun with a few friends and many years later attended my first race day, did awfully but could not wait for the next one. Here I am years later, a little wiser but possibly not too much better at the driving part! 40 years young, now on about my 5th childhood.

I have had radio controlled cars for as long as i can remember, indeed my first pay check was used to buy a Tamiya Mud Blaster from the now defunct Beatties.
Over the next 5-6 years i bought various cars and trucks but i always felt that something was missing when driving my cars or trucks up and down the road out side my house, i knew i could go racing but never quite found the time or place to do it.
Then in 1999 i took the leap and started racing 1/8th oval stock cars at Adur, a year or so later i switched to 1/8th oval hot rods and it was around this time i was asked by the then chairman Gary Mills to help out on the committee, i became the Oval rep for Adur, the next year at the AGM little did i know what was coming!! I went to the meeting as Adurs oval rep and came home as Chairman, i held this position for 2 years and i still consider myself as caretaker chairman. I always knew the club needed to move forward but i didnt know quite how to do it.
After my role as chairman i have continued to serve on the committee in a couple of roles.
I have now thinned out my collection of radio controlled cars but i still have a selection of cars to choose from to race on any given day and continue to enjoy racing touring cars, tamiya minis, ansmann mad rats and anything else i can beg borrow or steal to race at Adur.

I found my interest in rc cars in 2000, my first car was a GV nitro touring car.
Then I got into monster trucks and I love it, finding the biggest jump to launch it off.
After many years of bashing around car park's and fields I needed some competition.
I found Adur Model Car Club through a friend 5 years ago. Now my driving skill has
got stronger thanks to the help of our club.
